Downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, Residents To Benefit From Verizon Wireless Network Enhancements

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

New Cell Site Means Clearer Reception, Fewer Dropped Calls.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in downtown Grand Rapids, which enables more customers to use their wireless phones to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell site improves voice and data coverage in downtown Grand Rapids from Fulton Street East north to Interstate 196 (Gerald R. Ford Freeway) and from U.S. Route 131 east to Union Avenue.

“This new cell site was built to ensure that our customers who live and work in, or visit, downtown Grand Rapids can continue relying on their phones for everything from making calls and sending messages to surfing the Internet and getting e-mail,” said Greg Haller, president – Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. “The most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on. That’s why we aggressively invest in our Michigan network to increase coverage and capacity for our customers and continue to raise the bar in network reliability.”

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $59 billion since it was formed – $5.7 billion on average every year – to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1.4 billion on improvements to its wireless network in Michigan.
