Silitech aims at 25% global market share in 1-2 years

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Silitech Technology, the world's largest maker of handset keypads, has set a goal of increasing its global market share from 21% in 2009 to 25% in 1-2 years, according to company president CY Wu.

Although sales in April and May were below forecasts, Wu is optimistic that second-quarter revenues will grow by double digits sequentially, and the third quarter will be even stronger.

The Taiwan-based manufacturer is targeting the market for QWERTY keypads, which are in growing demand due to increased sales of smartphones, the company indicated, adding that it will combine light guide plate technologies in keypads to provide low-battery consumption products.

Silitech shareholders at its 2010 meeting on June 14 approved the distribution of a dividend per share of NT$4.40 (US$0.136) in cash and NT$0.10 in stock for its 2009 operations.

When asked whether Silitech will raise salaries in China, Wu pointed out that the company raised salaries at its eastern China facilities at the beginning of the year and already had plans in place to increase salaries in southern China in July. The pay hike will affect gross margins by less than 0.5% in the second half.
