Taiwan market: Samsung launches Android Galaxy S i9000 through cooperation with TWM Tweet

Samsung Electronics on June 14 announced the launch of its Android-platform flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S i9000, in Taiwan at a retail price of NT$22,900 (US$706) through local mobile telecom carrier Taiwan Mobile (TWM), according to Samsung Electronics Taiwan.

For the second half of 2010, Samsung's smartphone portfolio will be 70% Android based and 30% on its own Bada platform. The company currently has no plans to introduce Windows and Symbian devices in Taiwan.

Market share of Android-based smartphones in Taiwan is expected to rise from 13% currently to 20-25% at the end of 2010, and Samsung aims to be the largest vendor of Android-based smartphones, the company said.
