Orange enhances its security offering for business

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Orange announced two partnerships with specialist security providers Becrypt and Barron McCann, which will enable the operator to offer a broader range of solutions to customers matching their specific network security needs. In addition, Orange is introducing a number of changes to its secure connectivity portfolio, to give customers even more confidence that their data is protected when using mobile communications.

New Partnerships
* Becrypt - a software encryption specialist, whose products are certified by CESG (the UK Government’s national technical authority on information assurance), and who specialises in securing data at rest. This means that if a laptop is lost, the data will be entirely encrypted and near-impossible to access by anyone but the owner
* Barron McCann – whose products are also fully certified by CESG, is a specialist in data encryption, securely converting data as it travels from one place to another so that it cannot be threatened by unauthorised access while in transit

New Technologies
Orange is constantly investing in new technologies to offer companies the best services to support their business.

With increasing legislative burdens on organisations’ use and protection of data, Managed VPN from Orange offers secure, high speed access to business services and applications remotely on a business device, resulting in increased flexibility for mobile workers. Orange is also boosting the availability of its Managed VPN systems by increasing the range of connectivity and back-up options for customers. With added support and methods of connecting to the network, customers can have increased confidence that their business data will be accessible to employees who are out in the field.

As the first UK network to conform to the ISO27001 Information Security Management Standard, Orange has a strong background in enabling secure business operations. Orange is continually looking to build on this security heritage and is the only UK mobile operator that uses the USIM exclusively for 3G / 3G+ traffic. Unlike a conventional SIM card, the USIM allows a mobile device to check that the network it’s talking to is bona-fide and secure. This is in addition to the normal SIM operation, where the network checks that the mobile device trying to connect to it is authorised to do so.

New Billing Solution
To increase flexibility and ensure that secure VPN access is available to the widest range of businesses, a new, more flexible billing option for the Managed VPN solution is also being launched. This will allow Orange customers to pay for their secure network access in the way that suits them best; either upfront in a single payment, or in monthly instalments.

“At Orange, we are always looking for new ways to deliver the best solutions to our customers to meet their individual needs. A complete refresh of our Managed VPN and partnering with the very best specialists to deliver secure connectivity demonstrates our commitment to achieve this. The breadth and depth of the solutions and our new partnerships mean that we can offer a broad range of expertise, with solutions available for all types and sizes of business to keep them remotely connected. Our technology updates will allow all our customers to be confident that their networks and their data will be secure, and available to them, no matter where they are,” said Michael Lawrence, Head of Corporate Propositions, Orange UK.
