OVERLAND PARK, Kan. --June is Internet Safety Month, and Sprint's (NYSE: S) 4NetSafetySM program is there to offer kids, parents and educators the resources they need to make sure that the Internet remains a place of education and fun, and that potential online dangers can be addressed up front and easily avoided.
4NetSafety is a program that opens the lines of communication about Internet safety between young people and the adults who care for them. 4NetSafety offers free tools from expert resources. These resources address perils that young people commonly encounter online and encourage positive dialogue about Internet safety. 4NetSafety is a partnership between Sprint, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children(R) (NCMEC), the National Education Association Health Information Network (NEA HIN), and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Resources available include Internet safety education for young teens and tweens and safety tips and resources to help adults teach safe Internet navigation to these young people. All services are available free of charge with no registration required at www.4netsafety.com, and many features are also available in Spanish.
"Internet Safety Month is the perfect time to remember that even though the Internet presents many fantastic opportunities for our young people, it also presents potential dangers," said Debby Ballard, director of Community Affairs for Sprint. "4NetSafety is there to help kids, parents and educators better navigate the online world so that our children can safely get to the content that's appropriate for them."
For Internet Safety Month, kids and the adults in their lives can look forward to several additions and enhancements of this important program.
Sign up for weekly Internet safety tips via e-mail
As part of 4NetSafety, Sprint and the National Education Association Health Information Network offer bNetS@vvy, a resource targeted to adults, offering articles and online-safety tools that these adults can use with the young people in their lives. During the month of June, bNetS@vvy will send out weekly Internet safety tips via e-mail to anyone who signs up. Tips will focus on hot safety topics like cyberbullying, social networking and sharing too much information. Fun, animated videos and more for teens and tweens
Keep your passwords private. Don't over-share information in your status updates. Never meet face-to-face with someone you first met online. Tips like these can mean all the difference when it comes to keeping kids safer online - but conveying this information in ways that is easy to absorb and register with our young people can be a challenge. Created by Internet safety experts at NCMEC's NetSmartz Workshop, NSTeens addresses those challenges. A key part of the 4NetSafety program, NSTeens offers tools and tips for young people in mediums that are interesting and engaging, such as anime-style videos, online comic books and Web games. NSTeens also provides resources for educators such as presentations and activity cards. In honor of Internet Safety Month, new NSTeens content will be announced during the month of June.
Internet safety education in communities across the country
Starting in June, Sprint's 4NetSafety partner Boys & Girls Clubs of America will enhance its in-club programming related to Internet safety and the 4NetSafety program. Boys & Girls Club staff members will receive in-depth Internet safety training that they can carry back to Clubs across the country through engaging, educational activities.
