Company Receives CIO 100 Award for Second Time.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless has been named a recipient of the 2010 CIO 100 award, presented by IDG’s CIO magazine. The annual CIO 100 program recognizes innovative organizations that use IT effectively to create business value.

“Verizon Wireless views its IT team as a competitive advantage that helps drive innovation in the way we serve customers and move the business forward with technology,” said Ajay Waghray, chief information officer of Verizon Wireless. “The CIO 100 award recognizes the dedication of our IT employees who work hard every day to provide technology that delivers real and sustained value to our customers.”

Verizon Wireless was selected for its creation of an innovative and unique sales software system called SHOPP (Streamlined Hybrid Order Processing Path). Since the rollout began, SHOPP has sped the time it takes to process a customer’s order in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores by 40 percent.

“This year’s CIO 100 awards draw well-deserved attention to companies that are not only innovating with IT but creating genuine business value as well,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine and events. “These winning companies and their IT organizations are an inspiration to businesses everywhere.”

This is the second time Verizon Wireless has received a CIO 100 award. The 2010 CIO 100 awards will be presented at the 12th Annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., on Aug. 24.
